Happy New Year, Expat! How was the party?
Some of the most memorable New Year’s Eve parties I have ever experienced were outside my homeland. I have watched fireworks over the harbor of Arica in northern Chile, danced on table tops (while wearing the centerpiece) in Abu Dhabi, and soaked in the serenity of a milestone along life’s highway in several other countries. (All without hangovers.) Back home in Arizona, I was never much of a party-goer and was likely as not to fall asleep before midnight. There’s something about being far from home that contributes to uncharacteristic revelry.
