Some of the most memorable New Year’s Eve parties I have ever experienced were outside my homeland. I have watched fireworks over the harbor of Arica in northern Chile, danced on table tops (while wearing the centerpiece) in Abu Dhabi, and soaked in the serenity of a milestone along life’s highway in several other countries. (All without hangovers.) Back home in Arizona, I was never much of a party-goer and was likely as not to fall asleep before midnight. There’s something about being far from home that contributes to uncharacteristic revelry.
So, to you, world traveler, how did you spend New Year’s Eve far from home, either yesterday or in years gone by? I offer you a forum for your memories.
